Oliver’s Tattoo

When I decided it was time to get a tattoo honoring my newest little man it was obvious it would be something related to his name, Oliver, and also had to have some connection to Harry Potter. The olive branch has a very symbolic meaning which made it the perfect choice both references. The Olive Branch symbolizes a beginning of a new life. It was also written that the Olive Branch was the first thing that the dove brought to Noah as a sign of a new life in the land.

The Olive Branch also has long since symbolized victory and honor is currently still used as the symbol of Olympic victory in tribute to the early Olympian athletes who were crowned with Olive Branches. In Greek mythology it was attributed to the goddess Athena, and remains a symbol of peace and security. Athena, the Greek goddess of peace, war, arts, and wisdom, was said to have given the olive to humans.

In the Harry Potter story, Oliver Wood is the first Quidditch player we meet, keeper and captain of the Gryffindor team. Garrick Ollivander is the surname of the greatest wandmaker of his time. Ollivander is of Mediterranean origin meaning “he who owns an olive wand.”

The tattoo it surrounds is dedicated to Jackson and is a representation of a father and son taken from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (the short story The Tale of the Three Brothers).  For more on that click here: https://chroniclesofanewdad.com/2015/12/07/jax-tattoo/

Mother Nature

Some odd things are happening over here lately.  It’s like some sort of children’s miracle. I’m not even sure how to explain it. Sometimes you have to just let nature take its course… sometimes, unfortunately that course includes some natural disasters (analogy for weeks on end of screaming, crying and no sleep).  However, sometimes that course nature takes is a cool breeze that relaxes the nerves (analogy for the past two weeks or so of relatively quiet and calm nights of consistent sleep).

I’m not sure how that happens, I’m not sure if it will continue, but sometimes it’s best not to question Mother Nature. 🙏🏼

Three Months

I’m three months old today

  • 14.4 pounds
  • 23.5 inches long
  • Makes bubbles and silly faces/noises
  • Starting to notice things around him
  • Sleeping better and for longer stretches
  • Constantly  moving his arms and legs (pretty sure he has restless leg syndrome… can you have that at three months old?)
  • 1st big day out to Mystic Aquarium!
  • Has yet to be permanently injured by Jackson
  • Likes snuggling with Buster

Happy 3rd Birthday

Dear Jackson,

Remember when you were able to celebrate your birthday as an only child?  Those days are long gone… but no matter how many siblings you have, or how many dogs are barking in the house, today (April 27th) will always be your special day.  You will ALWAYS be our little boy.  You will always be the first.  Plus… you will always be the oldest… that carries its benefits too!

When you were first born, I was drinking a Snapple Raspberry Ice Tea thinking that this wasn’t going to be so hard.  Then I held you for the first time and immediately knew I was wrong and that this was going to be REALLY HARD.  I realized that I was going to be in charge of a miniature human being.  I looked at you and realized I was going to be responsible for keeping you from getting hurt (I’ve failed at that… a lot), making sure you stayed out of trouble (I’ve definitely failed at that), and most importantly supporting you in your growth into a smart, persistent, funny and caring young man… in that… I have not failed.

The last year has been filled with many different emotions, as well as filled with many different interesting situations including your trips to the hospital, to you starting basketball practice and now with you about to start Preschool.  Watching you open gifts this morning, especially watching you try on your new book bag made me think of a time where I was trying to figure out how to get you to drink your bottle without throwing up on me… now I’m wondering who is going to open your milk container at school if you can’t do it.

I know they say time flies when you’re having fun, but honestly, I think time flies all the time.  The time I spend away from you seems like eternity, but when we are together having fun, eternity doesn’t seem long enough.

I hope your third birthday brings you new beginnings filled with happiness, laughter and wonderment.  I am so proud of you.  You make mom and me so very happy!  Keep smiling, keep asking questions and most importantly keep being you!

Happy Birthday to my [not so] little boy,

Love Always,
Dad

#BabyWhisperer & #DogSitter

This kid is head over heels in love w his baby brother #Babywhisperer and #dogsitter. #bigbrother #BabyBrother #max #RunnyNose #TuckInTime

I think it’s only a matter of time before he’s going to climb in that swing with.

The Anchors are Coming ⚓️

So last night I’m putting Jax to bed. It’s an ordinary bed time. Bath time, watch a little Peanuts (laugh at Charlie Brown) put on our PJs and read a couple of books. We even added in shadow puppets on the ceiling as well. Pretty tame night for an almost three year old.

We blew out the lights, counted the stars on the ceiling, I tucked him and gave him a kiss goodnight. Again nothing out of the ordinary. “Daddy door open please.” Not an unusual request. And that’s it right?

…wrong.

That wasn’t it… he slowly creeps down the hallway as I’m in the shower and opens the door… the then pulls back the shower curtain and yells… “HELP… THE ANCHORS ARE COMING… THE ANCHORS ARE COMING!!!”

After getting myself up off the bathtub floor and catching my breath… I realize he’s gotten himself back in bed and is asleep.

Great-Bammy

It’s so amazing when your child has the opportunity to meet their grandparent… it’s more of a blessing when your child gets to meet their great-grandparent.

Oliver and Great-Grammy shared a very special moment under a very “beautiful” fake flower decorated archway.

Either way, no matter the decor I’m just happy to have captured this moment with great-Grammy (or great-bammy as jax calls her).
